Located in a semi-rural area of northern Kentucky, this new two-story, 15,000 SF all-inclusive facility will replace an existing 2,000 SF single story general practice hospital. Located directly behind the existing practice, the new Animal Care Center will contain a 7 Exam Room full service hospital on the Upper Level plus Canine and Feline Boarding, Grooming, Doggy Day Care and Training & Obedience services on the Lower Level. The new full service hospital will provide physical therapy, dentistry and ultrasound services. The entire design is intended to convey a message that state-of-the-art medicine is practiced within a warm, friendly and inviting environment.

Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod is an existing full-service veterinary hospital serving the animal care needs of the entire Cape Cod area. Because of its visibility from the Mid-Cape Highway, the main vehicular artery connecting both ends of the Cape, a primary goal for this project was to establish a visual identity for passing motorists in both daytime and evening traffic. A second important goal was to create a larger, more inviting waiting area for hospital clients. A third important goal was to ensure that the building reflected a Cape Cod vernacular of weathered cedar shingles, sloped roofs, and wood trim. <strong>rfa</strong> accomplished all three goals with the design of a dramatic glass- and cedar shingle-enclosed waiting area that captures the attention of passing motorists in architectural harmony. In addition, the project pursued LEED Certification with a green vegetative roof and solar collector panels.

Atwater Veterinary Center, <em>Veterinary Economics</em>' Hospital of the Year in 2015, was designed to replace an existing 40-year-old single-storied practice, the land and building for which were seized by the State of California through eminent domain. Anticipating the loss of their veterinary hospital and being further compromised by a very short timeline to acquire suitable land and begin the design process, Dr. Chiffelle and her partners turned to <strong>rfa</strong>. From seemingly insurmountable odds to acquire the land and financing as well as to maintain business operations in Atwater, this hospital rose like a phoenix from the ashes as a testament of exceptional ingenuity. The 5,496 SF design is of the Craftsman style, and the site accommodates 26 parking spaces, a secured service yard at the rear for doctors' vehicles and a covered large animal truck carport, and three outdoor runs equipped with pet-friendly turf and seven-foot-high fence surrounds.

From a historical standpoint, the Sacramento Animal Hospital was the first animal hospital in Sacramento, California dating back to the early 1940’s. Technologically outdated and physically obsolete, its old building was in need of replacement. The new Sacramento Animal Hospital is a two-story building of 5,782 SF designed and constructed on a challenging 19,258 SF triangular-shaped lot. This project required the acquisition of an adjacent property with subsequent parcel merger (lot tie) and lot-line adjustments. To maintain the hospital’s business operations during construction, this project was completed in three phases of migratory construction. The end result is strikingly contemporary architecture with enhanced biophilic design principles and features infused into its core detailing and spatial environments. Combined, these design elements give this building its unique sense of place, warmth, and comfort to both its employees and the East Sacramento community it serves.

Located in the well-known, progressive community of Reston, VA, the Just Cats Clinic is situated  in the heart of the Reston Commercial / Retail Center. Devoted exclusively to feline patients and boarders, the facility includes a large Cat Playroom with custom designed cat play structures that are visible from both the main entrance and from a major pedestrian commercial/retail thoroughfare that passes directly by the front of the Clinic.

Located on the island of Puerto Rico, not far from San Juan, Manati Veterinary Hospital will become one of the finest and most progressive Veterinary Hospitals in the entire Caribbean. The project is designed to reach out to and welcome its clients, enable them to see and experience the broad spectrum of services and amenities offered, and to impart a lasting memory of each visit. Clients will pass along a beautiful Koi Pond and a zen-like waterfall as they approach the entrance. Inside the Waiting Area, overhead above the Exam Rooms, clients will be able look up and see the Cat Boarding Condos, Cat Play Areas and the Grooming Suite.

Located in the heart of downtown Pompton Lakes, NJ, the existing hospital will be completely renovated and a major addition will be added to provide Dog Boarding that includes Luxury, Deluxe and Standard Suites on the Ground Level. Cat Boarding is provided on the Upper Level which includes Cat Condo Suites plus a large Cat Playroom with custom design Cat Play structures, all with view to the exterior. The City of Pompton Lakes was so impressed with the design that it has offered the Owner the opportunity to add 2 to 3 stories of Resident Rental Apartments above the proposed project.
