Copley Court is a lushly landscaped indoor courtyard surrounded by restaurants and food-related retail shops. Located on the upper retail level of Copley Place, Boston's elegant Back Bay urban mall, Copley Court is a unique component within the complex. Architectural metaphors, drawing on Boston's built heritage, inspired this park concept reminiscent of Boston's Public Garden and brownstone residences. The park is surrounded by a shopping promenade that recalls the spirit of the upscale shops on nearby Newbury Street. While the park provides a place of welcome rest and relaxation for patrons of Copley Place, the perimeter shopping central park) provides both daylight and after sunset, the illusion of a clear night sky through the use of small built-in lights. In addition to the design of this central court, rfa, as an Associated Architect, was retained to establish Tenant Design Guidelines for the entire retail complex. rfa was also responsible for designing several of the adjoining restaurants and retail stores within Copley Place.
