This 60,000 SF state-of-the-art animal medical center, borne out of the adaptive reuse of a large parking structure, is comprised of four components: 1) a shelter veterinary hospital that serves the San Francisco SPCA, 2) a general veterinary hospital that serves the city and its metropolitan areas, 3) a spay/neuter clinic, and 4) a feral cat hospital. The facility contains 18 exam rooms, three treatment rooms with a total of 19 treatment tables, four surgery suites with a total of eight surgical tables, and ICU rooms plus a broad spectrum of support functions, educational spaces, and animal housing configurations. Eye-catching design elements that reflect fundraising contributions, including a dynamic wind screen at the facility's entrance consisting of hundreds of engraved dog tags, inspire community support and enthusiasm.
