The House at Swan Pond is no ordinary dwelling. Located 2.5 miles into a forest north of Boston, the house overlooks a lake known as Swan Pond. Since there was originally no electricity there, the Owner, Architect and Builder, who is also one of rfa’s principal’s, Warren Freedenfeld, had to produce all his own electricity for the first ten years of occupancy. The stones for the central fire place all came out of the ground as the foundations were hand dug. The wood ceilings and wood floors were all hand carved into the fireplace stones. A tree trunk forms the center of a spiral stair that descends into the lower level which was once Warren’s original Architectural Office.
