A unique and previously unprecedented public/private partnership between Long Beach Animal Control and the Los Angeles SPCA, this 30,000 SF shelter was designed to house primarily dogs and cats, but also includes facilities for horses and wildlife. For the first time ever, a government agency and a non-profit organization have joined forces to create a shared animal shelter. This unique partnership between Long Beach Animal Control and the Los Angeles SPCA, has resulted in this 30,000 SF shelter, designed to house primarily dogs and cats, but also includes facilities for horses and wildlife. This groundbreaking facility features rfa’s “PetVillage” TM concept, where small groups of dogs live in “cottages”, with a home-like scale, in a thoughtfully planned and humane environment. Beautifully landscaped courtyards abound within and between each cottage. The shelter was built with nearly maintenance-free flooring, wall and ceiling materials, plus a remarkable, state-of-the-art animal waste removal system.
